Math Blog

I know I’m late to the party on this one, but I am really liking Let’s Play Math, a blog by homeschooling mom Denise about teaching math.

Denise has such enthusiasm for the subject, and on the first pass she hit all the right notes for me: emphasizing problem-solving rather than repetitive exercises, understanding the reasons behind the rules, enjoying math, and trying lots of different approaches (as per this quotation from a recent post):

You don’t understand anything until you learn it more than one way.

— Marvin Minsky

Now that I have discovered the glories of Google reader (and the annoyance of being unable to post a widget for it on WordPress until I get Eggmaster to do the funky workaround) I am looking forward to starring and sharing lots of her great ideas!

  1. Hey Shaun –
Your Disney photos were great – it looks like you guys had a really fun time. We have only been once and loved, loved, loved it. Planning our next trip now…

Anway, I love Google Reader – I use it along with Delicious to keep track of stuff. Your blog has had an RSS feed widget on it for some time, so I have marked it on my Google Reader page. Is that what you are talking about?

  2. Google Reader is great, isn’t it? Except kind of disappointing too. Within a couple of seconds I can see who has or hasn’t updated their weblogs and so there is no anticipation, no hope.

  3. Tag, taggie tag tag…come do something lowbrow. Run over to my blog and play 8 random things. Whee! (and let’s get something on the calendar for next week…come knit!)

Who is this Eggmaster guy? Does he have his own blog?

I think so, he just doesn’t update it much, or contribute to this one. It’s weird, really.
